Future Cops (1993) / 超級學校霸王
/ Chao ji xue xiao ba wang is a crazy Hong Kong action + sci-fi comedy
film directed by Wong Jing. The year is
2043. The world is in chaos because an evil organization wants to alter history
to take over the world. To prevent this, the government sends 4 police officers
from the future to 1993 via a time machine. Their mission: protect a high
school student named Tai-Hung. Because in the future, Tai-Hung will become an
important person who will judge "The General". The problem is, these 4 police officers
disguise themselves as students and teachers at Tai-Hung's school. They are
clumsy and love to joke around. While teaching and fighting rival school gangs,
they also have to fight assassins from the future who were sent to kill
Tai-Hung first. The ending is typical
Wong Jing: messy, explosive, full of retro CGI, and with an illogical plot
twist — but still fun.
Critics praised Wong Jing's wild
action and comedy. School brawls mixed with futuristic laser guns. There are
kung fu scenes, gunfights, mechas, and even time travel. Everything is thrown
together. Chaotic but entertaining. Don’t think too hard about the plot. What
matters is the fast pacing, pretty girls, dumb jokes, and over-the-top
villains. The only weakness of this film
is that it has no meaningful moral message. This is purely a popcorn movie for
laughs and fistfights.

In my opinon:
Because a new Street Fighter
movie is coming out soon, I feel the need to review a film similar to Street
Fighter, or more accurately, a parody of it. In 1993, Chinese cinema shook up
the comedy film world by releasing: Future Cops (超級學校霸王:
Super-School Tyrant). This is not a film with B-list stars. It has Andy Lau,
Aaron Kwok, Ekin Cheng, Jacky Cheung, and even Simon Yam.
This was my favorite film as a
kid. How could it not be? The most popular fighting game of that era got a
live-action movie. Instead of presenting fierce characters and a serious story,
Future Cops delivered fresh action comedy. Even the characters are flipped. The
main protagonists here are Vega, Guile, Dhalsim, and Ryu, while the main
antagonists are Ken, Honda, Sagat, and of course M. Bison. Can you imagine?
Vega as a protagonist? That’s weird, right?
The story is interesting too. Vega and company travel to the past to
find a judge who, in the future, will preside over M. Bison’s crimes. Of
course, M. Bison’s henchmen are also sent to the past.
The comedy here is very thick,
very fresh, and entertaining even during fight scenes. For those who have
watched it, who doesn’t remember the 1 vs 1 fight between Guile and Ken? Or the
final battle against M. Bison? It’s all perfect action comedy. There’s even a claim that Future Cops is
better than Street Fighter starring Jean-Claude Van Damme. Why? Because Future
Cops isn’t stingy when it comes to visualizing their signature moves. Hadouken,
Sonic Boom, Crescent Kick, Tatsumaki Senpu-Kyaku, Yoga Fire — go ahead
and name them. Wong Jing even dared to surprise us by featuring an iconic anime
character. Here’s a hint: Kaaa mee haaa meee haaaa!!!!
The visuals, audio, and
cinematography were eye-candy for the technology of that era. The cast is
legendary and perfectly suited to their roles. Future Cops is a bizarre
masterpiece that will never be forgotten by fans of Asian action comedy.
For me this one is 9/10.
