No.1 Sentai Gozyuger vs. Boonboomger (2026) is the 31st and final "VS" special film + a celebration of 50 years of Super Sentai × 30 years of the "VS" series. It was released in limited theaters on March 20, 2026, followed by DVD/Blu-ray on July 29, 2026. The film holds a rating of 7.8/10 on IMDb and 7.2/10 from 24 users on MyDramaList. The story centers on the threat of all parallel universes merging into one. Taiya Hando (Bun Red) is competing in the Big Bang Grand Prix (BBG) alongside Bundorio. Suddenly, the BBG is halted when the universe’s strongest monster, UniverseNo.1, triggers a "Universe Fusion" — causing all parallel universes to collide and descend into chaos. Upon returning to Planet Shaft, Bun Red is attacked by the bitter demon beast, Galaxy Circuit Guruma. Fortunately, Hoeru Tono (Gozyu Wolf) arrives to save him. Meanwhile on Earth, the other 5 Gozyugers fight Universe No.1. Bun Blue, Bun Pink, and Bun Black then arrive to help. Despite this, they are overwhelmed, and all 8 Sentai are defeated.

Then Hoeru appears again in a new form: Saint Gozyu Wolf. He transforms into a "radiant" and authoritative figure, a stark contrast to his usual rough self. With a vow to "end the fighting," he slashes through space itself and hurls the heroes into another dimension. Gozyuger and Boonboomger learn that if the Universe Fusion continues, the world will be destroyed. They must defeat No.1 by any means necessary. The big question is: what is the true purpose of this changed Hoeru?

Positive reviews praise the story concept. The multiverse theme and 50 years of Sentai make the battles feel like a true "final battle." The tagline: "Engage! To end all battles." The character of Saint Gozyu Wolf is a highlight thanks to the cool visuals of his space-slashing attack. The team-up chemistry is great — Gozyuger × Boonboomger have excellent dynamics. The vibe feels like a classic Sentai crossover. The film has very few negatives, though some fans say this Gozyuger team is the "weakest" compared to others, but the film is still a "banger" and the final act spectacle is insane.

First, I want to clarify that Japan has a term called Sentai. Sentai is a Tokusatsu genre depicting a team of superheroes. If you still find it unfamiliar, Sentai is the origin of the phenomenon known as Power Rangers. From Japan, Super Sentai is one of the most famous examples. There are many versions of Super Sentai, starting from Kyoryu Sentai Zyuranger, Ninja Sentai Kakuranger, SamuraiSentai Shinkenger, and so on. This time, the Super Sentai I watched is Boonboomger (debuted in 2024), which collaborates with the newest Super Sentai, Nanbawan Sentai Gozyuger (2025). You don’t need to worry if you haven’t watched the full episodes of Boonboomger and Gozyuger, because the story in the film is easy to understand without watching those episodes. However, according to the information, this film’s timeline takes place between episodes 45-46 of Gozyuger.

I’ll give my opinion from the perspective of the film’s presentation, because to be honest I’m not a hardcore Sentai fan or follower. First, in terms of story concept — perhaps because it was popularized by the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) — the multiverse saga has also become an interesting story idea for a Super Sentai film. I agree with this idea because it’s a bold move to step away from mainstream storytelling. It’s told that both Super Sentai teams are "sent" to another multiverse by Saint Gozyu Wolf, a Super Sentai who upholds the principle of peace but in a slightly twisted way (he is somewhat similar to Thanos). In that other dimension, they meet legendary Red Super Sentai: Yamato Kazakiri (Zyuoh Eagle), Captain Marvelous (Gokai Red) and Satoru Akashi (Bouken Red), whose powers are needed to defeat Universe No.1, Kurumaju Galaxy Circuit Grumer, who is aided by Saint Gozyu Wolf. Boonboomger and Gozyuger must work together so the universe doesn’t merge and endanger human life. Interesting, right?

Second, I’ll definitely judge the visuals, which are exciting and full of amazing special moves. With today’s technology, the visuals are undoubtedly thrilling. The audio and music are also great, capturing the spirit of struggle. But as usual, since Tokusatsu films are fundamentally for children and teenagers, the acting and choreography can feel childish, awkward, and even stiff. But that’s fine because that’s what Tokusatsu is — it has to be exciting and not dark. Overall, this is a must-watch film for Sentai fans as it closes the "VS" series era. Action + multiverse drama + nostalgia from the 3 additional Reds makes it complete. Once again, a great work from the Sentai series. かっこいい戦隊映画!!
