"Be Happy" (2026) is a romantic film directed by Gabourey Sidibe. The film tells the story of Val, a 50-year-old housewife who feels her life has become monotonous after her child leaves for college. She begins to question the meaning of life and her relationship with her husband, Ross.
One day, Val gets the opportunity to visit her daughter in New Orleans, and there she meets Peter Mosley, a handsome and charismatic photographer. Peter helps Val rediscover her passion for life and makes her question her life choices. Val must choose between her ordinary life and the chance to find true happiness. The film truly depicts the complexities of human relationships.
This film stars: Tisha Campbell, Russell Hornsby, Mekhi Phifer and more.
In my opinion:
Oh Mary J. Blige... Is this a film from you? One word, OUTSTANDING. Listen, this is the definition of a meaningful and impactful love drama. It's not just about the usual love drama, but this is a different way to make a great love drama film.
This film is a representation of
a long-lasting marriage. Imagine, if you've been married for 27 years. What do
you feel? Does the love you feel remain the same? Have you changed? And many
questions are ready to test your marriage. This film provides an important
insight into the causes of disharmony in marriage. Sometimes they make the
wrong decisions, do the wrong things, and even risk their marriage for
something meaningless.
I was truly swept away by the
storyline of this film. I kept saying to myself;
"Damn Val, what are you
doing??"
"Why?"
"Please don't."
I felt a mix of annoyance and
curiosity. This film reminds us how vulnerable our hearts are when faced with
love problems. How could it not be, Peter Mosley's charm really makes Valerie
infatuated. Making decisions that we think are right but regret later.
There's a very meaningful
dialogue that I think is noteworthy;
"The theme park is sure
exciting, but you can't live there. You cannot substitute romance with true
love."
With good visuals, audio, and
cinematography, plus the quality of the actors, this film feels warm and
comfortable to watch.
What a great film!
For me this one is 8.5/10.
