"Hands" (2026) is an
action fight film directed by Justin Kuhn, telling the story of a pair of
underground fighters who must prove themselves as the best against cunning
rivals and merciless fighters. They must choose between victory and revenge.
Unfortunately, reviews of the film are not too positive, criticizing the unnatural cinematography, lack of substance in the script, and unsatisfying fight choreography. Reviews mention that "Hands" has an '80s-'90s martial arts vibe, but the execution falls short, including a climactic final fight that feels rushed. The focus on female fighters is a plus, but the choreography is just mediocre. Overall, "Hands" is an average action film, not terrible but not great either. If you enjoy martial arts action films, you might watch it.
This film stars: Ashley A. Williams, Tanjareen Martin, Donald Gibb, Quinton 'Rampage' Jackson and more.
In my opinion:
I now have my own term, I'll call films with many flaws but still watchable as "modern B-movies". When I saw the poster, I imagined an intense fight film. Yeah! Because the poster made me do it. But reality was, hhhh... I'm quite disappointed.
The film lacks a strong
foundation to make a fight film. I found many unnatural things in this film.
For example, how Carter survives several brutal hits against Killgore but gets
KO'd with one sneaky punch after the match ends.
It's a shame, the fight
choreography isn't intense at all. I even say it's like a theater fight scene.
Add the awkward sound effects, it feels off. The film had a chance to showcase
the awesomeness of Brazilian Vale Tudo and Israeli Krav Maga, but it ends up
feeling like a street fight. You know how deadly those martial arts are, and
the film doesn't show it. The tournament format is just a small tournament made
to look bigger.
Why "modern B-movie"?
Because I still see decent visuals but mediocre cinematography and audio.
Acting quality just average, though natural enough. Like I said, I thought I'd
see intense fights, especially with Quinton "Rampage" Jackson on
board. But he turns out to be just average, and sorry, no Rampage happened
haha.
For me this one is 4.5/10.
