In my opinion:

This is my first review for a Chinese film, and I'm thoroughly impressed. The tension builds from the start. With no unnecessary, chaos introduced early on, serving as clues to follow the story.

I've watched some modern Chinese films before, and honestly, I wasn't impressed. But lately, their quality has been improving. I admit, this is one of the best Chinese films I've seen.

From the start, we're guided to build a narrative and conclude that the source of chaos is a female demon called Maitreya, spreading disease in Huazhou city.

But don't be fooled; there's a bigger crime behind it all.

The film is excellent, with natural acting, dialogues that convey mystery, and a well-structured story leading to a surprising twist at the end.

It brings back memories of older Chinese films focusing on storytelling and tradition. The film takes me back to that era. It showcases etiquette between subordinates and superiors (even standing posture is scrutinized), moral principles, and even the burial must be in accordance to Fengshui

With great visuals, audio, cinematography, and storytelling, I highly recommend this film.

For me this one is 8/10.
