"Disneyland
Handcrafted" (2026) is a documentary that recounts the construction
process of Disneyland in Anaheim, California, in 1955. Directed by Leslie
Iwerks, the film utilizes rare archival footage and original audio from the
Walt Disney Archives to reveal the story behind Walt Disney's dream of creating
"The Happiest Place on Earth".
The documentary showcases the
challenging and labor-intensive process of building Disneyland, from installing
the Sleeping Beauty Castle tower to constructing the Mark Twain ship. The documentary
also features interviews with workers
involved in the project, providing insight into their dedication and spirit. "Disneyland
Handcrafted" is a must-watch for Disney enthusiasts and those interested
in learning more about Disneyland's history. The documentary has been available
on Disney+ and YouTube since January 22, 2026.
In my opinion:
Can you imagine if imaginative people like Walt Disney didn't exist? I'm sure the world would be dull without Mickey & Minnie Mouse, Donald & Daisy Duck, Goofy, Uncle Scrooge, etc. Or imagine if Stan Lee gave up on his dreams – we wouldn't have Captain America, Iron Man, Spiderman, Hulk, etc. They are gifts to this world, and their contributions shouldn't just be remembered but preserved and continued.
This documentary showcases
original footage of the construction of the greatest theme park, Disneyland.
We'll witness how the Mark Twain ship and E.P. Ripley train were made, how the
Jungle Cruise attraction was designed, etc. It all started with Walt Disney's
bold idea to bring his creations to life. With the help of talented artists,
sculptors, craftsmen, engineers and technicians, Walt Disney managed to prepare
Disneyland in 10 months. The construction faced numerous obstacles, including plumbers’
strike just a month before opening. However, Walt Disney didn't give up, and
with his leadership, Disneyland officially opened on July 17, 1955. Despite
mixed reviews from the press, the opening was flooded with visitors. Notably, Disneyland
has welcomed over 900 million guests since opening day.
Disneyland is Walt Disney's
priceless legacy. No matter your age, you'll always return to being a happy
child when you step into Disneyland. Incredible!
