Crime 101

Synopsis:

“Crime 101” (2026) is a captivating heist thriller with a touch of psychological drama. The story follows Mike Davis, a professional jewel thief with a strict code of ethics, who always carries out his operations along the 101 highway. He's known for his nearly flawless reputation and avoidance of violence. However, when Mike plans his final big heist, he clashes with Sharon Combs, an insurance broker experiencing a life crisis.

Meanwhile, Detective Lou Lubesnick is convinced that all these actions are the work of a genius and starts pursuing Mike relentlessly. The film has a strong atmosphere and maintains a tense mood from start to finish. The gloomy visuals of Los Angeles add emotional weight to the story. The chase scenes and clever deductions at the end are also very engaging.

The tense atmosphere is stable throughout, and the film explores the moral dilemmas and psychological aspects of its characters. The realistic heist scenes, with detailed planning and execution, are handled quite technically. The drawback is the slow-paced storyline. Some parts of the film are too focused on dialogue and character development, and it lacks new elements. Crime 101 scores 87% from critics and 84% from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes.

This film stars: Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Halle Berry, Barry Keoghan and more.

In my opinion:

If you're expecting an action-packed crime film like The Rip, you won't find it here. This is essentially a story about a criminal genius by Bart Layton, adapted from Don Winslow's 2020 novel of the same name. With an incredible cast, the film is presented exceptionally well.

Honestly, I had to rack my brain to understand this film. Each scene is like a puzzle piece that needs to be collected and pieced together at the end. With three main characters driving the story - Mike Davis, a professional diamond thief who never uses violence; Sharon Combs, an insurance broker frustrated with her 11-year career; and Lou Lubesnick, a detective convinced he can solve the 101 crimes - each has their own story to resolve.

The visuals, audio, and cinematography are superb, and with top-notch artists like Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, and Halle Berry, this film is a top-class crime thriller. It's different from others, and if you enjoy crime and heists, you should definitely watch it.

For me this one is 8.5/10.
