The Devil Wears Prada 2 (2026) is a comedy drama with a runtime of 1 hour 59 minutes and was released on May 1, 2026. The film is a sequel to the same title and is directed by David Frankel. 20 years after the first film, the world of Runway Magazine has changed completely. Miranda Priestly is still a fashion icon, but her career is wobbling. Runway, which used to dominate in print, is now forced to move to digital: podcasts, newsletters, TikTok, all for ads and survival. Andy Sachs is now a famous journalist in New York, at Vanguard. But at an awards ceremony, her entire editorial team is laid off via text message.
Because she went viral
after a speech about press freedom, Runway owner Irv Ravitz recruits Andy as
features editor without Miranda’s permission. Andy returns to Miranda’s orbit,
this time to save Runway’s reputation. On the other hand, Emily Charlton is now
working for Dior US and has her own agenda. The film tackles the theme of the
decline of traditional magazines, AI, social media, and media consolidation
that makes Runway no longer as influential as before.
Critics praised the chemistry
between Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt, and Stanley Tucci, all of
whom have not lost their characters like in the first film. Miranda still has
authority, but now she is more tired and human. Critics say the plot feels
familiar, the story structure adapts beats from the first film. The middle act
is a bit slow, and some conflicts are resolved too easily.
This film stars: Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt, Stanley Tucci, Simone Ashley and more.
In my opinion:
Oh.. Anne Hathaway and Meryl
Streep, you are so captivating. I’m relieved this second film wasn’t made easy,
I mean not just continuing the tyranny of Miranda Priestly in leading her
company, but there is another story in this sequel, which is to overthrow the
devil. This film, in my opinion, really captures the modern mindset of the
current generation where they feel the need to replace traditions that have
been running with something fresher (in their opinion). The film successfully brings
characters back without just selling nostalgia. The issues of modern media,
mass layoffs, and management consultants make the story feel current.
Correct me if I’m wrong. Today’s
generation is indeed very enthusiastic and has fresh ideas, this is very much
needed and even influential in advancing all aspects, especially business.
However, in my opinion, it is not quite right if old traditions must be erased
and replaced with new ones. Because, in my opinion, it is those traditions that
brought us the progress we have now. What you need to do is continue them with
spirit and perseverance, or create something new without having to erase the
old traditions.
This is what I took from this
film, not just about a leader who is impatient, always demanding, and arbitrary,
but this is a depiction of dedication and commitment. Even in this film, Andy
has to work hard to defend Runway, because she realizes how meaningful the
tradition and influence of the company are (sorry for the slight spoiler). This
is a very good film, in my opinion. There’s no need to doubt the quality of the
visuals, audio, and cinematography, this is Hollywood material, and don’t
forget this film is adorned with triple A–label actors. Wunderbar!
