Synopsis:

The Super Mario Galaxy Movie (2026) is an Animation in the adventure fantasy genre with a runtime of 98 minutes and was released on April 3, 2026. After successfully thwarting Bowser’s plan to marry Princess Peach in the first film, Mario and Luigi now face a new threat: Bowser Jr., Bowser’s son. He is determined to free his father from captivity and restore the Koopa family’s glory. Along with old and new friends, the two brothers must journey across the stars to stop the young heir’s mission. This film takes its setting and references from Super Mario Galaxy, so you’ll see new things like characters, planets, and iconic items.

Fans reacted positively. The film is considered to have taken the Mario franchise to a new level with a fresh space adventure. This sequel raises the scale of the adventure, not only funny and lighthearted, but also visually a feast for the eyes

This film stars: Chris Pratt, Anya-Taylor Joy, Brie Larson, Jack Black and more.

In my opinion:

Mmm… how do I put this? For a film I’ve been waiting for, this sequel didn’t impress me that much. I felt the story moved too fast, I felt the ‘finding each other’ moments were too easy. For example, where Bowser Jr. finds Bowser, or where the Starfox ship is found and just chased by Bowser Jr., and there are still a few more. On the other hand, there’s something that doesn’t quite fit or make sense. Like, is there oxygen in outer space?? Because when Mario’s team boards the Starfox ship, it’s as if they’re riding a car without a roof. Their hair is blowing and they breathe normally, hey, this is outer space, right? Then in the post credit scene, after Starfox fixes his ship and is ready for takeoff, when he sits in the cockpit, there’s a canopy that closes, just like a spaceship (which, where this makes sense for a spaceship, right?).

Yeah, aside from the shortcomings I mentioned above, this film is still entertaining, funny, and has a lot of new characters appearing, like Rosalina, Bowser Jr., Wart, Ukiki, Lumalee, and Starfox McCloud. Then there are iconic items along with their powers, all of that is cool. I can’t deny the spectacular visuals and audio, which are a great standard for animated films. This film was a market success with earnings of $747.4 million, and if totaled with the first film, it has already passed $2 Billion. Well, I’m sure some people will like it and some won’t, that’s normal, right?

In Indonesia, this film stayed in theaters for quite a long time. This shows that the film was indeed successful, like its predecessor. I still hope there will be another sequel, don’t want to lose to the Sonic films, hehe. I hope the story is developed further AND.. even though this is an animated film (anything can happen), hopefully small details like the ones I mentioned can be addressed. Mamma Mia!

For me this one is 7.5/10.
