"Shelter" (2026) is a
107-minute action thriller film directed by Ric Roman Waugh, released in
theaters on January 28, 2026.
The film tells the story of
Mason, a former assassin who living in isolation on a remote island to forget
his past. However, his life takes a drastic turn when he saves a young girl
from drowning in a storm. This heroic act triggers a chain reaction, drawing
Mason back into the dark world he left behind.
The film offers brutal action
sequences typical of Statham, blended with emotional drama and high-paced
tension. Jason Statham's performance as Mason is praised for conveying strong,
genuine emotions. Bill Nighy plays an unfriendly antagonist, with Naomi Ackie
and Bodhi Rae Breathnach also starring.
This film stars: Jason Statham, Bodhi Rae Breathnach, Bill Nighy, Naomi Ackie and more.
In my opinion:
Yeah, if you see Jason Statham as the lead, expect thrilling action scenes. It's a Statham trademark: action, brawls, shootouts, and heroics. The film isn't bad, but I thought, "Ah, Jason Statham, it's always like this, isn't it?".
The story's actually solid: Mason, portrayed as a mysterious loner, gets caught in a survival zone, fighting to protect Jessie, a relative's child. The plot's a bit slow, gradually revealing Mason's true identity and motivations for leaving isolation. However, I felt the story lacked depth, feeling shallow without major surprises. Honestly, the film's saved by its action scenes, even borrowing tech similar to God's Eye from Fast & Furious 7 (called THEA here)
The film's visuals, audio, and
cinematography are great and with top-notch acting from Statham and ‘The Davy
Jones’, Bill Nighy. Despite flaws, I still categorize this as a good film. By
the way, why's it called 'Shelter'? Feels a bit off isn’t?
For me this one is 7/10.
