"State of Fear" (2026) is a 1 hour 43-minute Brazilian action thriller film directed by Pedro Morelli.
The film tells the story of Cristina, a lawyer with ties to the Irmandade (Brotherhood) criminal organization, who must rescue her niece, Elisa, kidnapped by corrupt police in São Paulo. The film begins with a brutal attack on a police station, sparking riots and violence across the city. Cristina must fight to save Elisa while Irmandade launches a counterattack against the police.
The film has received mixed reviews,
with some critics praising the cast's performances and immersive
cinematography. However, others have criticized the plot for being too generic
and unoriginal.
This film stars: Naruna Costa, David Santos, Seu Jorge, Camilla Dami and more.
In my opinion:
This is a really good film! From the start, I was given the core of the story and just followed the flow. It's an intense film with realistic and brutal shootouts.
The movie left me wondering who
to root for – the Brotherhood or the police? The police are portrayed as
corrupt, framing people for money, while the Brotherhood is a rebel group fighting
against them. However, their actions plunge São Paulo into a night of terror.
The visuals and audio are
outstanding, with beautiful cinematography. The aerial shots, movement, and
positioning during shootouts are precise. The cast's acting is superb and
natural, making the tension feel real.
This is one of Brazil's coolest
films – no wonder it's on Netflix (because it's really good).
For me this one is 8/10.
