"New Jersey Devil"
(2026) is a horror mystery film directed by Ryan Callaway. The story follows
Sophie, a 16-year-old teenager in the process of adoption, who realizes that
her new family is being stalked by an evil force.
The film received negative
reviews from critics, citing poor technical aspects, including subpar
cinematography and editing. Some critics labeled it a "technical and
narrative failure" and "boring".
This film stars: Olivia Mignone, Veronika Babina, Sasha Pearson, Ryan Callaway and more.
In my opinion:
Okay, so this is a story about the Jersey Devil, a mysterious creature in the United States that has become a legend, part of colonial history, and subject to academic analysis. Some say the Jersey Devil is a 'monster' born out of the political feud between the Leeds family and the Quaker community. You can Google it later.
What confuses me is, why is the title "New Jersey Devil"? New? Is there a new version of the Jersey Devil? Is this film a groundbreaking horror movie? My answer is ABSOLUTELY NOT!
The film starts with poor choreography, and I suspect it's a low-budget production, using only high-resolution cameras or even an iPhone, rather than professional equipment. I could predict the quality of the film from the start. And, oh God, it's over 2 hours long!
But wait. As the film progresses, the story becomes more engaging. Initially pessimistic, I found myself drawn into the plot. It felt like listening to a storyteller at a campfire, and I was genuinely invested.
My emotions were mixed – I was
impressed, yet confused about what I was watching. In terms of cinematography,
visuals, and audio, it's just average. The actors follow textbook performances
without improvisation, making them seem stiff. But the story is good, which is
confusing.
HOWEVER... towards the end, the
story becomes messy. For me, the mystery remains unsolved, and I felt like I
didn't get a satisfying climax. My interest was dashed at the end. Oh my God,
what kind of movie is this actually?
For me this one is 4/10.
